Case example:

An employer and their insurer requested some help in getting their injured worker back to work. A telephonic nurse case manager had managed the worker’s case, but the case was closed early at the request of the insurer, as the client appeared to be recovering appropriately. Eleven months later the injured worker was still not back at work. Communication had broken down and the RTW never happened.

I interviewed the injured worker, documented his subjective complaints and objective findings, assessed the situation, and proposed a plan of action. The plan was communicated to the employer, employee and the medical provider.  

I identified a suitable transitional duty work option with the employer, and got agreement from all parties. I then coordinated a referral to an appropriate medical specialist who examined the client. This provider offered an appropriate treatment plan, and allowed the injured work to return in the transitional work position within 10 days. 

The client had been considering legal representation, as he was fearful that he was going to lose his job. All parties were happy with the outcome, and significant legal costs were also saved.
